Overview: Hardy Brown Sr., who initially supported Tony Thurmond, Antonio Villaraigosa, and Katie Porter for governor, has changed his position and now supports Tom Steyer. He reconsidered his choice after a conversation with his in-law and further research into the political landscape. He hopes that, if elected, Steyer will govern with humility and remain attentive to the perspectives of everyday Californians.

Hardy Brown Sr.

Like many Democrats in this primary election, with so many strong candidates seeking to become governor of this great state, I have had to reconsider my choice over time. I am no different. I initially supported Tony Thurmond, Antonio Villaraigosa, and Katie Porter as my top three based on following their work over the years.

I began to rethink my position after a conversation with my in-law, William “Bill” Thomas, who said, “Hardy, I don’t want to waste my vote on Tony because he is not breaking through.” Then the situation involving Eric Swalwell unfolded, and some of his supporters began signaling their second-choice candidates. I also reached out to trusted sources within the nurses and teachers associations to better understand the political landscape and assess the possibility of a scenario where two Republicans could advance.

With that in mind, I am supporting Tom Steyer for governor. I hope that, if elected, he governs with humility and remains open to the perspectives of everyday Californians. At times, individuals with significant wealth may believe they have all the answers, but leadership requires listening as much as it does leading.

With that said, I am offering my slate for your consideration at the state level and in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
