Senator Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside) was recently appointed Chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations by Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara).
The Senate Appropriations Committee considers bills previously approved by Senate policy committees that appropriate funds or might have a substantial fiscal impact on the state.
Regarding the appointment, Cervantes, the first openly queer Latina to serve as Chair of Senate Appropriations stated, “I am honored to be appointed to serve as Chair of Senate Appropriations, and I am grateful to Senate President pro Tempore Monique Limón for her trust.”
Cervantes further shared how she looks forward to working closely with Pro Tem Limón and other Senate colleagues to advance California’s values, while evaluating the fiscal impact of legislation and improving the lives of working families in the Inland Empire and across the Golden State.
Senate President pro Tempore Limón also appointed Cervantes to serve on six additional committees including the Senate Banking and Financial Institutions, Senate Elections and Constitutional Amendments, Senate Governmental Organization, Senate Local Government, the Joint Committee on Rules, and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.
In addition to these committee appointments, Cervantes serves as Vice Chair of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus and is a member of both the California Latino Legislative Caucus and the California Legislative Women’s Caucus.
Senator Cervantes will assume her role as Chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations on February 1, 2026.
