San Francisco—Last week, a U.S. District Court judge in California refused to block President Donald Trump’s decision to discontinue subsidy payments to health insurance companies that were previously authorized under the Affordable Care Act.

San Francisco Judge Vince Chhabria ruled in favor of the Trump administration and said the government does not have to make subsidy payments while litigation over the subsidies continues to work its way through the courts. Eighteen states had sought to stay Trump’s decision while the pending litigation resolved.
