The Inland Empire Community Foundation (IECF) is now accepting applications for the second round of grants from the IE Black Equity Fund through December 16, 2022. This funding opportunity provides capacity and core support to Black-led organizations with a goal of creating better outcomes within the local communities they serve.
In partnership with IE Funders Alliance and IECF, the Fund was created by The Black Equity Initiative – Inland Empire (BEI-IE), a coalition of nonprofit leaders whose work is focused on ending systemic racism and building political and economic power for the Black community in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Since its inception, the Fund has received significant support from The California Endowment, The James Irvine Foundation, IECF, and more than 50 corporate and private donors.
“We know the fight to undue structural racism must be sustained through intentional power building among Black led and Black empowering movements and organizations in the Inland Empire,” said Felicia Jones, Co-Founder of BEI-IE and Associate Director of C.O.P.E. “This funding is important because it allows organizations to build stronger capacity that will positively impact the Black community here.”
With multiple organizations throughout the region, the program will assist nonprofits that are focused on systems change and power building work in these priority areas: civic engagement, criminal justice transformation, housing justice, health equity, education equity, and economic liberation.
For this second round of funding, nonprofits are invited to apply for a Learning Tier Grant up to $20,000. The application deadline is Friday, December 16, 2022.

Using the guiding principles of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, which recognizes “the inherent power imbalance between foundations and nonprofits,” the Fund worked with regional nonprofit leaders in a planning process to develop a grant program to: 1) give multi-year, unrestricted funding; 2) center IE Black Equity Initiative leaders in decision-making; 3) simplify and streamline paperwork; 4) be transparent and responsive; and 5) offer support by participating in peer learning with IE Black Equity Initiative leaders to improve Black equity in funders’ overall grantmaking practice.
