California has launched a new, statewide initiative with NVIDIA, a technology company headquartered in Santa Clara, CA.

NVIDIA, described as the world leader in artificial intelligence computing, has agreed to partner with the State of California in a“first-of-its-kind” AI collaboration. The initiative, intended to expand access to artificial intelligence (AI) tools and resources, will enable students, educators and workers, especially those in community colleges, to learn new skills and advance their careers. 

The collaboration will provide “unprecedented access” to AI’s transformative technology through a three-tiered approach that includes training students, educators and workers on the technology; supporting and promoting job creation and innovation; and using AI to solve challenges that can improve the lives of Californians.

In addition to these goals, the partnership will strive to to bring new AI resources from NVIDIA into community colleges, including curriculum and certifications, hardware and software, AI labs, workshops, and more. 

“California’s world-leading companies are pioneering AI breakthroughs, and it’s essential that we create more opportunities for Californians to get the skills to utilize this technology and advance their careers,” stated CA Governor Gavin Newsom. “We’re teaming up with NVIDIA to connect AI tools directly to students, educators, and workers – creating a pipeline to drive the innovations of the future.” The agreement is set for three years.  

On the heels of this announcement, the governor’s office has issued a call to action encouraging other AI and tech stakeholders to join future partnerships. The University of California and California State University systems are expected to partner with the state on these efforts in the future.
