The NAACP Riverside Branch is pleased to announce the return of its highly anticipated fundraising gala, the 2014 Freedom Fund Celebration. The event recognizes those who have made significant contributions in the community. NAACP Riverside will host its 2014 Freedom Fund Celebration on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 5-9:30 p.m. This celebratory affair will be returning to the beautiful newly built Riverside Convention Center located at 3637 Fifth Street in downtown Riverside. The event’s theme this year is, “50 Years Forward…The Movement That Changed the World”.

Honorees being recognized include: Business/Entrepreneur Award – Clifford Breland, Bre Dance Studio; Community Service Award – Jennifer O’Farrell, Anti-Human Trafficking Advocate; Corporate Award – Louis Davis, Edison Company; Education Award – Renee Hill, Assistant Superintendent – Riverside Unified School District; Media/Journalism Award – Sam James, Photographer; and John Coleman, Journalist/Photographer; Political/Gov’t Award – Marion Ashley, Board of Supervisors; Law/Justice Award – Timothy Fowler, Regional Administrator, Department of Corrections and Paul Zellerbach, Riverside County District Attorney; Medicine/Health Award – Parkview Hospital; Military Award – Charles Stevens, Sergeant, Retired, U.S. Army; and Religion Award – Rev. Paul S. Munford, New Joy Baptist Church. Special Presidential Awards include: Stratton Award – Susan Strickland, Educator; Roy Wilkins Award – Dr. Carolyn Murray; and Griot Award – Dr. V.P. Franklin, UCR Professor.
