Receives endorsement from Moreno Valley’s first Mayor

Dr. Keri Then, D.B.A., a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, professor and telecommunications engineer, has announced her candidacy for Riverside Community College District, Trustee Area 5. This election marks the first time voters will select community college trustees by district and Then says she is stepping into the race to add a local voice that will advocate policies that ensure fair allocation of resources for student at all campuses: Moreno Valley College, Norco College, and Riverside City College.

“RCCD trustees have the privilege of developing policies for the entire community college district and I will do that if I am elected. But I will also work to ensure that those who feel their concerns and issues have not received the attention they deserve from the governing board get that attention,” Then said. “I experienced many of the same challenges community college students face, and how district policy can help or hinder their progress. As the Trustee for Area 5, my top priority will be to develop support, and advocate policies that strengthen RCCD’s ability to enhance student learning regardless of which campus they attend.”

The opportunity to elect a trustee from Moreno Valley is long overdue, said Moreno Valley’s first mayor Marshall Scott, who has endorsed Then’s campaign. “For the first time in the history of RCCD, Moreno Valley will be represented on the college’s governing board. Moreno Valley needs and deserves strong effective leaders and they will have that in Keri Then,” Scott said. “I’ve known Keri for more than 15 years. Her real world life experience, outstanding academic and professional accomplishments, and attitude of service make Keri the best candidate in this race. I strongly encourage Moreno Valley voters to elect Keri Then for RCCD Trustee, Area 5.”

Then teaches at the University of Redlands’ School of Business. Previously, she was Director of Enterprise Services in the University’s Information Technology Services Office (2007-2010). She was Senior/Associate Development Engineer (1999-2005) at the University of California, Riverside.

A strong advocate of education, Then entered the U.S. Air Force without a high school diploma but soon earned her GED. While serving in the military, she and her husband raised a family and she completed her Associate, Bachelors and first graduate degree, a Master of Science in International Relations. Once retired from active duty, she worked full time and went back to school to obtain a Master of Science in Telecommunications and a Doctorate in Business Administration (D.B.A.). Then has resided in Moreno Valley for 15 years with her husband, Robert, a Realtor. They have two grown children, also living in Moreno Valley and three grandchildren.
