A recent report by the California Department of Insurance found that over 5,000 hospitalizations and nearly 10,600 emergency department (ED) visits were associated with the episodes of extreme heat between 2013 and 2022. Hospitalizations ranged from 60 to 2,132 across events and ED visits ranging from 126 to 4,280.
