California State Controller Betty Yee has announced her endorsement of Tonya Burke for Mayor in the City of Perris. An endorsement illustrative of Burke’s leadership experience in city governance and fiscal accountability. 

In announcing her endorsement Controller Yee stated, “Councilwoman Tonya Burke has demonstrated her commitment to addressing the city's public safety issues, increasing access to higher education and trade training opportunities for its residents, increasing community engagement, and working to stimulate economic growth. Perris needs the vision and leadership of Tonya Burke to lead in meeting its growing demands, and I am pleased to endorse her for Mayor.” 

Councilmember Burke was elected to the Perris City Council in November 2014. Since her election she has implemented new fiscal regulations for the city after she uncovered the city had spent over 50 thousand dollars on Christmas decorations. In addition, she has brought free resources to the city in the form of job fairs, workshops, and legal aid to Perris residents. 

Burke is working to bring community college and apprenticeship programs that would provide training and placement for good quality jobs, in the city. 

State Controller Betty T. Yee was elected in November 2014, following two terms of service on the Board of Equalization. As Controller, she continues to serve the Board as its fifth voting member. As the State’s Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Yee also chairs the Franchise Tax Board and serves as a member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) and the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) Boards. These two boards have a combined portfolio of nearly $500 billion.
