Fontana was recently selected to serve as the operational base for Forward Air Corp’s operation base in support of the entire Inland region.
The selection was made in part because the area continues to experience high demand for freight transportation services. The Fontana facility will handle freight from both the Ontario International Airport as well as the Southern California region’s busiest ports, carrying freight throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The massive 100,000 square foot facility is Forward’s fifth location in the state and the second in Southern California.
“The new Fontana facility plays a critical role in our Southern California expansion plans,” said Tom Schmitt, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the logistics organization. “From this location, we will support our largest national customers and increase our reach with pick-up and delivery services. We will also link smaller businesses and individuals to our portfolio of service offerings.”
Schmitt further explained how the Fontana facility is an example of Forward’s continued expansion of services beyond its traditional airport-to-airport footprint. As such, the Inland Empire is now connected to its nationwide network and premium freight management services.
The company is expected to have job openings for managers, dock workers and company drivers.
“As a global supply chain hub, the City of Fontana has emerged as an economic powerhouse of the Inland Empire.” Fontana Mayor Aquanetta Warren stated, speaking about the facility to www.iebizjournal.com. “With logistics operations accounting for nearly 12,000 jobs in Fontana, and now with more coming soon, our residents have the unique opportunity to work within the city they call home. We are pleased to welcome Forward Air Corporation to the City of Fontana.”
