Washington, D.C. – As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), virologists and others continue to study the spread of COVID-19 in the United States. Research has shown there is a significant number of individuals who have the virus but are “asymptomatic;” and, even those who eventually develop COVID-19 (pre-symptomatic), can spread the virus before they become ill. In both instances these individuals can spread the virus when they speak, cough, or sneeze. As a result, the CDC now recommends that people wear a mask or cloth face covering when in public to protect others in case you may be asymptomatic and not know it or to protect yourself if the situation is reversed. This, in addition to social distancing, will hopefully curb the spread of this deadly virus.
