San Bernardino, CA – The timing could not be any more fortuitous. As concerns increase over the possible impact long-term isolation/confinement could have on some citizens, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors happened to recently approve enhanced board and care services for mental health patients. The advanced services will include 24/7 supervision and care and also allows for emotional support, stabilization, self-reliance, life skills improvements, and community integration.
According to the county, these services have enabled the County Department of Behavioral Health to reduce a consumer’s length of stay in acute psychiatric hospitals, long-term locked psychiatric residential facilities, as well as aiding in the transition to a lower level of care while still having access to specialty services. The project is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Community Mental Health Services Block Grant.
