San Bernardino, CA – A Gold Seal was recently awarded Cal State San Bernardino for achieving a college student voting rate between 40 and 49 percent during the 2018 midterm election. The award was presented during the 2019 ALL IN Challenge Awards Ceremony.
Overall, according to the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement—an initiative of Tufts University’s Institute for Democracy and Higher Education—student participation in elections increased from the 2014 midterm election to the midterms in 2018. Cal State San Bernardino’s student voting rate grew from 28 percent in 2014 to 43.2 percent in 2018 reflecting a 15-point gain.
The study revealed, of the institutions participating in the assessment, more than 1,000 schools increased voter participation ranging from 19 percent to 40 percent—with an average increase of 21 points in 2018.
