San Bernardino, CA

The Pilot Fire was first reported in the San Bernardino Mountains just after noon on Sunday near Highway 138 north of Crestline and west of Lake Arrowhead. By Tuesday afternoon the fire had involved nearly seven thousand acres, forced the evacuation of nearly 4,700; and threatened approximately 5,300 buildings in the San Bernardino National Forest. The fire was less than ten percent contained.

Favorable wind conditions early Tuesday helped mitigate the threat to the community of Lake Arrowhead, at least temporarily. The communities of Lake Arrowhead, Hesperia, Apple Valley were under evacuation orders. In addition, Apple Valley and Hesperia School Districts remained closed.
