Riverside City Officials Begin the Tough Task of Deciding Where to Cut

Riverside officials are having intense discussions as they begin the challenging process of deciding where to make the budget cuts needed to close a $12 million budget shortfall. Their goal is to close the budget gap while at the same time minimizing the impact such cuts will have on city services. The first places officials plan to look for savings are the number of expected retirements in addition to the number of open positions in lieu of laying off current employees. However, this is only a first step in what is sure to be a long and arduous process.
