The US-China Strong Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to strengthen US-China relations by investing in a new generation of leaders who have the knowledge and skills to engage with China through both commerce and culture. The agency has most recently been focused on expanding the number of U.S. students studying abroad in China. That effort has now expanded to also focus on increasing the number of American students studying the Mandarin language here in America.
The organization’s goal is to increase the number of U.S. students studying Mandarin from 200,000 in 2015 to one million by the year 2020. Presidents Barack Obama and Xi Jinping of China actually announced this ambitious effort in 2015. To learn more about the One Million Strong initiative, visit uschinastrong.org/initiatives/
