Move to Lower Voting Age

Sacramento – Seventeen-year-olds may soon be able to vote in primary and special elections in California if they turn 18 before the following general election. The right to vote for 17-year-olds would be authorized under a proposed amendment to the state constitution recently approved by the state Assembly. First, however, the measure requires two-thirds majority approval of the Senate to be put before voters during the March 2020 primary. If approved by voters, it would not become law in time to impact the 2020 general election.
