Years after the near collapse of the American economy that was experienced as intensely in the inland region as it was in other communities around the nation, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) continues to seek restitution from some of the institutions that allegedly participated in bringing about the crisis. 

Recently, the DOJ demanded $14 billion dollars to settle a lawsuit it filed against Deutsche Bank for its alleged role in the collapse of the U.S. housing market. It was this collapse that laid the groundwork for the Great Recession. The bank vowed to fight the demand.
