February 2016 was the warmest on record according to the nonprofit Climate Change Guide (CHG). According to NASA records in February 2016 for the first time ever, the global average temperature passed 1.5C. The previous record high was set a month earlier in January 2016 with a global average temperature of 1.14C. January’s record broke the previous high set in December 2015 which was 1.10C. Some climate experts believe the world has entered a new phase of accelerated warming. According to CHC, average temperatures across the Northern Hemisphere have never exceeded 2.0C—broadly considered the threshold above which climate change may become dangerous to humanity.
