Funding the Fight for a Cure

H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act, is close to attaining final approval by the U. S. Congress. The six-billion-dollar measure will put added funding into the nation’s efforts to cure cancer and Alzheimer; reform mental health treatment; test new drugs and medical tools; and other efforts related to these goals. The measure will also provide funding to assist the growing number of Americans who seek treatment for opioid addiction. Last week the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6 with overwhelming bi-partisan support. Saturday during his weekly address, President Barack Obama called upon the Senate to do the same because, as he explained, “That’s what it’s all about, coming to a compromised based on the belief that we should seize every chance we have to find cures as soon as possible.
