California Students Will Soon Learn About the Travesties of Human Trafficking

Riverside

Beginning in June, school districts around the state will include human trafficking among their comprehensive sexual health education classes in hopes of saving lives.

The legislation signed into law last year requires students be taught about the prevalence of human trafficking, in addition to strategies to reduce its risk and identify those being exploited, as well as how to set healthy boundaries and safely seek assistance when they feel threatened.

When the law passed last year, its author, Assemblyman Rob Bonta (D-Oakland), reported human trafficking is a $150 billion global industry, the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world.
