The California legislature reconvened last week as state voters prepare for the 2018 election and what is certain to be a rigorous campaign to elect a new governor, in addition to the usual shuffling of legislative chairs. 

In the meantime, the California legislature has work to do this year. Included among the priorities is the need to constructively address issues related to California lawmakers and allegations of sexual misconduct, housing affordability, and how to offset changes in the federal tax legislation that can hurt California taxpayers. Also this year, there is a purported push by members of the Democratic party to overhaul the state’s cash bail system, an effort also being championed at the federal level by Senator Kamala Harris.
