The cities of Riverside and Perris played host to the 2016 Association of African-American Museums Conference August 3-6 and organized numerous activities to welcome the national organization to the region. The activities included receptions at the Riverside Art Museum, Riverside City Hall, the Dora Nelson Museum in Perris, a gospel concert at RCC’s Landis Auditorium, and featured a Block Party in front of the Riverside Metropolitan Museum, which is currently hosting the national tour of the traveling exhibition “Changing America: The Emancipation Proclamation.” The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History and Culture and National Museum of American History and the American Library Association Public Programs Office organized the exhibit.
