America’s Aging Population on the Rise

San Bernardino

A new report by the U.S. Census Bureau highlighted how lower fertility and increased longevity have led to the rapid growth of an older population in the United States and around the world. According to the report, in 2015 among the 7.3 billion people on earth, nine percent were 65 years of age and older. That percentage is projected to increase to 12 percent of the world’s population by 2030 and grow to 17 percent by 2050—in the United States that number is expected to reach an unprecedented 21 percent of the nation’s population by the year 2050.
